A Bookshop With a Generous Heart: The New and Secondhand Bookshop

It is also a landmark of sorts for serious booklovers in Bombay. Its name, offering new as well as second-hand books, suggests its typically inclusive approach to the profession of bookselling.

According to C.R.Mankame, the knowledgeable store manager who has worked here for some sixty years - ever since he was eleven years old - within this cramped space are nearly 100,000 books.
Uma Mahdevan-Dasgupta pays a tribute to that Bibliophile's paradise -- The New and Secondhand bookshop, near Metro Cinema, which is 100 years old this year.
