"Eat vada, it is very nice. Also have some sambar, you will love it." Thus spoke Indian President, Dr. Abdul Kalam, at a reception hosted by the Indian ambassador to Norway at Reykjavik during a recent state visit.
V. Gangadhar approves Dr. Kalam's sentiments and hopes the vada can now come out of the shadow of idli and masala dosai and march forward. He waxes eloquently about the large vadai (as Vada should rightfully be called) family — Ulundu vadai, paruppu vadai, medhu vadai, onion vadai, rasa vadai, thayir vadai, and the more modern cabbage and carrot vadai. and hopes that the starting of vada diplomacy with other countries, will help the vadai find its own place under the sun.
